Looking very cool man looking very cool. I read the PDF on the interface layout. I think they nailed it. I would just like to see more of the nodes in 2.5 more like what XSI and Houdini have done with the standardized data types that can easily have anything drive anything. Allows for a lot of out of the box thinking without having to write tons and tons of code.

I didn't know broken was making the changes. :D
I remember using a greyscale blender he made that was probably 20 percent slower to find the buttons I was looking for,
on account of the greyscale. :D
I think everything was reversed and horizontal also. :D
    andy circus
    reversed and vertical.
Some people like the vertical, but I'm not used to it.
    andy circus
I'm sure broken will do a good job though.
    Thondal
Looking really good. Still looking forward when there's an alpha version out. I'm soooo going to use it:P For testing purposes offcourse, but it would be really fun to play around with a version where you can actually render stuff and all that. But for now i'm happy with just looking at the progress. I still don't see THAT much change from 2.4* but might be because i don't look closely. Read about the new icons today.. sounds great. Good luck on the further development.
    jedihe
@Thondal: the goal with 2.50 is to get a very powerful backend, so the frontend is not going to be too much different from what is in 2.48a. Once the backend is fully functional there will be many new possibilities in extending Blender and also in customization :)

    Tynach
Cool! You can have a 4-way split, and it will slide both top/bottom and left/right sides at the same time now!

Great work, I really can't wait for 2.50 to come out!

DingTo big thank for 2.5 build!
It is really great to see the development. I look for your future next 2.5 builds.

Great, that you like the builds.

Thank for new build. Great new additions. The coders are filling stuff in really fast :-)
    4museman
This version of Blender is going to be very great! :-) I can't wait to see it fully functional. I'm sure, that the new event handling system will delight a lot of 3D people, who didn't like Blender because of the fixed shortcuts. And the multicreen support is very usefull as well (try Alt+R to rip current window into a new window ;)). Huge kudos to all developers!

PS: There is a basic 3D viewport manipulation already in SVN! ;-)
    Ali
DingTo, can you please re-build this?
There are big features that landed right after you published this.

And its not much work, once the compile environment is set, i just have to press on a script, compile.bat (simple bacth file) wait, and upload it. ;-)

Yes! Believe or not, but Blender 2.5 can read a file! I made to open my recent model: http://www.volny.cz/milos.zajic/other/Blender_2.5_opened_file.png :-))))

    YEAH!!!

Can't wait for this to be finished. Things are really coming together!

Though, now I can't split a view. Probably because they're going to re-implement the menus.

Well, i compile it with no tweaks! No user-config.py!!

so far what i've discovered, is exciting! i written some of it down, have i missed anything?
-the bottom right of the window contains a triangular widget: drag it!

-after a bit of fun, tap Alt+R, now close the old window!

    -while in 3d tap S

-the open menu may not be there but you can still open files, drag n drop (not that you can do anything)

-head over to the animations press play and watch what happens to th frame markers as the sweep across the time line, no more guessin

-theres somthing different about the outliner cant put my finger on it...

and now how to sneak peak a goodie

the dope sheet, check out the bottom of the actions window!!

How do you rip out a window? Alt+R does "Clear Rotation" in the 3D window and nothing in the others...
    Anomynos
Rip window is Alt+Ctrl+r (or Ctrl+Alt+r) now
    Thondal
Hey, great release, allthough the file browser is not fully functionally though. Also, will there be a render possibility in the near future? Would be nice to test it out, also, i'm a bit noob when it comes to information, my question: will there be a faster renderer/new renderer. It's not slow now, it's just if the file is too big and the octree gets too full my computer chrashes because of memory lack :P hehe.

    -thondal-
    Thondal
Sorry for double posting, but i though that when you split the views that the changes in one windows was going to be updated in real time in one of the other views / ripped out windows.
    Nik
The only problem i have with ripped-out windows is that they're launched as a seperate thread on the taskbar and that screws up the updating for the main Blender window when moving them around.
    johan tri handoyo
woww !! great features !! ^_^ cant wait for final release. anyway, i tried it in vista and it's abit lagging. i already set my vista to optimized performance (no aero and stuff), but overall this is super !!

ps: and i think autodesk should adopt Blender RNA, since we have to buy anything from them.

    ..mehh....
    afalldorf
Hey Johan I believe I heard somewhere that Disabling Areo actually slows down blender... Try enabling it again.
    Blade_Rain
    @ afalldorf

I'm running vista, and disabling aero allows blender to run a bit more smoothly than normal. Enabling it actually makes it able to render in the render window without freezing, but when using the dolly, the screen flickers black and red :(

So it has its quirks... Man I miss XP :'(

    And sexy build, btw :)
    Blade_Rain
However, running this build with aero enabled erases all previous problems :|

Hm... I hope it stays this way when the final release comes out!!

    Hello!
I tried all the build 2.5 but do not work well: many windows and menus are empty and various commands do not work.

    @DingTo: I understand ... I felt strange!
    Thank you
    Bmud
I'm having a strange time adapting to a lot of these tiny changes. "Donut" handles for the handles in the IPO editor is unfamiliar, but I like how it distinguishes the center point from the handle. The panel on the side I wish I could resize (a pet peeve from 2.3x), and I feel like the property names could be less verbose. Example: "Cube" > "Action" > "Location.X" instead of "Cube.Location.X" since I know it belongs to the cube anyway? Maybe this is useful for later, I'm naive at this point.

Can someone tell me the hotkey for making a new window so I can test this out on a dual monitor setup tomorrow?
    4museman
@Bmud: To rip a new window is Ctrl Alt R. ;) (It is also listed in temporary menu under F5.)
    Aligorith
    Bmud:
Thanks for taking interest in the Graph Editor improvements. Regarding the issues you were having
    - The main idea behind the changes in handle drawing was to make it easier to distinguish between 'handles' and 'keyframes', with 'keyframes' being more important. Mockups for alternative designs are always welcome, but reverting to the previous confusing display is not an option IMO.
    - Panel resizing is something that will be addressed in due course when more UI discussions about the way this works occurs
    - The property names are a bit verbose in a few situations (like the one you've named), however, there are many other situations where the current way is somewhat necessary (i.e. for bones, or animating material properties attached to the object in question "Material1.color.R"). Maybe I need to reintroduce 'Action Channels', or perhaps this could be better handled by the 'Action Groups'. The way in which these are defined is currently still subject to review.
    Thondal
love the progress, but any idea when the extrude and other edit mode functions will be back?
    dalibb
    Great progress!!!
    Thanks for build.

"-Making screenshots back. CTRL+F3 does full window now."

Why is this changed? and what do you mean "back"
    currently in 2.48a
Ctrl-F3 takes screenshot of active window
Ctrl-Shift-F3 takes full screenshot of all windows

Personally I don't like the new GUI, but I appreciate the improvements that are being made, Thanks

    Nik
Why is this changed? and what do you mean "back"

"Back", because of the massive recode going on to get all 2.48 features to use 2.50's new operator system. Work on the GUI can't begin until all functionality is restored first. What you're seeing now isn't really a big GUI change unless you count the icons... Speaking of that, i'd love to be able to change/make my own icon sets... 3dsmax has it!

Looking good. Ctrl+Alt+R does not rip windows out. Holding shift+LeftClick and drag on either window sub-divisor does the trick now. Much nicer.

    1. In camera view, playing the scene is really slow.
    (ATI 3200HD)

    2. When you choose a background image it only applies to camera view

    3. you can edit the mesh while blender is still rendering is this meant to be possible? (i noticed changes are committed post render so i guess it's okay.)

4.Is python active yet, I can manage to create and run apps but cant interact with blender because 'import Blender' results in an error. whats the new module called?

    DingTo
    Hey HTB,
i appreciate the feedback, but 2.5 is in a early state and there are much things which have still to be done.

1: Try to change the window draw-method under Outliner>User Preferences>System & OpenGL. Tripple Buffer is default, try the others.

    2. that's WIP

    3. Yeah it's fine, but will maybe be disabled in future revisions, because it can cause some trouble.

    4. New Python API is also in WIP, nothing that works here.

    Nortmobile
When I run this on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 (beta, also known as Windows 7 Server beta) the screen is completely black except for the cursor and the window border. It still reacts to commands like setting it to full screen F11 which results in a completely black screen. Normally I would say that's a video driver issue except that I can run the Win x64 version that jesterKing has posted previously without issue. I do understand that I'm running a WIP version of Blender on a beta version of an OS, which in itself, may be the issue. What am I missing? Are there differences in the User Preferences settings between this current build and the Win x64 build which was released on Graphicall about a month ago? By the way, I am able to run this version on a XP64 machine just fine and I do want to say the progress is fantastic. Thank you to all that have worked on the 2.50 release.
    HTB
==> 3. noooo dont disable that, I love it. especially on those long long endless renders. but then again i guess someone could always upload a custom build to allow that.

    thnx for the build DingTo

i'm running this under Wine in Ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) and it looks and works great! i've been using inazuma's builds on the OS X side, but they've been crashing lately. i don't know if it's the state of the code right now, or if it's a platform problem with the build. anywho, this is working smoothly and the UI is looking awesome!

    cheers

    Very very Nice!
    - I suare you, after a moment, some of the new
buttons window contexts dispear, i couldn't reproduce the bug so i left it only a suggest or a evidence mor if some of you all get the same behaivor.

-I Was watiching the new Lightwave Core UI and it sucks compared to the lovely Blender UI!

    Another Bug finded:

    -Render a scene
    - Draw anything in it with brush tool
    - Toggle the padlock button and then you draw again, it crash.

    Keep it up!

I have suggestion, scroll-wheel should pan menu not scale it. In some areas button and encryption is too tight, for example, Alpha mode when premultiplied is selected, in small buttons, their are too tight and not full shown. Sorry for my English.
    in the minority
I hope this is the safest place an artist can put up requests for Blender, though this might not make any sense:

Do you think the grease pencil tool could work for soft modification, where around the brush stroke the edges bend to the curve of that stroke? I think it would be a great speed up for correcting modeling issues in redards to edge flow...
    n-pigeon
Last algorithm for curves was nicer this one is to saturated for location curves (it hurts the eyes) and the rest is mudy and ugly.
    Agustin
I Love the new f-curves colors, they are much more interesting and armonic with the UI.
The last colors were so gay, like a spring day with your mother instead with you girlfriend.

    You got it guys! AMAZING
    n-pigeon
Agustin what are you talking about? For now they are over saturated, if they will be a little less saturated there will be fine.
    yacinedelucia
this is awesome...i can't describe my happiness when
i found this...and i was even more happy when i experienced
by my hands a first taste of what will be blender 2.5.
all that i can say is that 2.5 surely will be far on top of
any other package.and will force autodesk to think twice
before selling a 2009 2010 2011 multi thousands dollar app
that at the end have two or 3 new features that no body wants
    n-pigeon
Wow 2.5 will be amazing :)

I have one suggestion in modifiers the border for them shouldn't be in the same colour as buttons, it looks too unified. Maybe little darker? But I love new separated tab for modifiers :D
    Blender User
Please solve the UI problem where multiple open subpanels will cause certain subpanels to be hidden. For example, in the "Model UI Layout", if I click on "Scene" in the "Buttons Window", the Anti-Aliasing, Render, Etc subpanels are all opened... However, I can't see the "Output" panel without scrolling or minimizing/closing some other subpanel. There's no indicator that it's scrollable, so it's hard to know if a user is seeing all available options.

Hey, thanks for downloading the build and feedback.
n-pigeon: Yeah is worth a try, but...

Does this need SSE (i.e. a "newish" processor?).

I could not imagine you shoud be at this point with 2.50. I know you have a lot of work to do until we have an Alpha version, but it is amazing! The only problem using 2.50 WIP versions is that we do not want using the old ones! The UI is so soft and nice that make us feel very said using the old ones!
Man you have a problem! I am very excited to see the first stable version!
    Axon D
    Excellent work!

    Feedback:

some scrolling menus are not wide enough, when pointing at the scrolling icon for adding a modifier we lose the menu. the add texture menu cut the 2 last string of the characters of the name. probably WIP.

A new behavior makes that when were in sculpt mode and passing to the edit mode with tab, and then tab again, and we are now in OBJECT mode. Why that? The old behavior gave us the possibility to model in EDIT mode and smooth a portion without having to make a selection, by passing to SCULPT mode set with a smooth brush and then switch back to EDIT mode. This gave a very rapid workflow and was really useful.

You can compile with other python versions by setting the py version in your userconfig file. (BF_PYTHON_VERSION = '2.6')
But there is no Py 3 Zip Package in the Repo yet, not sure if this works on windows. But I guess you can use the new syntax, yeah. :-)

I love the progress. Great that every modifier has its own icon now. . Can we get those for the mesh primitives. like cube and cylinder and cone and sphere all easy to get confused when modeling sleepy. somethings crash it easily of course like selecting soft bodies as a modifier. but i expect you know this. Thanks alot developers. 2.5 is great

    Hello guys!

i have 3 question about development of blender 2.5.

    1. how system of render passes work. (iґm XSI and i think in a pass/partition/overrides manner).
    2. some type of ICE will be implemented? (some type of visual nodal low level programing, multitreaded) if yes, the future of blender will be brilliand, and can ofuscate commercial softwares.
    3. some type of muli property page can be used on blender? (or this exist already?) (iґm not much proeficient on blender interface right now.

Thank for you guys, for fantastic work. And congratulation to Ton Rosendas for all effort into make a fantastic revolution with new blender 2.5+

I want to point out something that's not a bug but nonetheless a nuisance. click dragging for numerical value changes should continue changing values when i hit an edge of a screen. why? well in the T window when i use spin tool at 360 its really hard to lower it back down. this ofcourse is only one of many examples.

or it would be cool if i could drag down and/or left to drop values down. just an idea.

this is indeed useful but the main problem with this approach is that you have to rellocate your mouse (physically) after you do this so some people will definately argue that it clutters workflow and that ctrl/shift modifier keys are better.

please i'm having problems with ripping out windows. can't the old way of splitting and joining windows be implemented. its a lot easier.
-also when you add objects, it adds relative to your view (that sucks) can't the objects be added in default view.
Otherwise, 2.5 is looking sweet. love the UI,...it rocks!

    Guten Morgen!

While I was writing a script for Blender, I thought that it would be very useful if there were a file format for storing materials in Blender, such as MAT file in V-Ray (exempli gratia, BMAT or BLENDMAT files). Storing and distributing materials through BLEND files is not handy: the file sizes are larger than necessary and users have to export the materials with "Append" function (SHIFT+F1). I think a new file format should include only the material settings and the (possible) textures (maybe with XML or C++ arrays?). What do you think about? Could it cause problems or is it unprofitable?

DingTo, I found your build to be VERY interesting. I will try to explain why. Currently I am using XP and IGP (graphics from the motherboard). To do this with the current BF builds, I have to shutdown my Acceleration (crap driver) and run in a reduced speed. Otherwise I get OpenGL buffer frames popping up all over the place. Example; the splash screen and other screens will keep showing up every time I mouse over a button inside the Blender.

However your build "Blender 2.5 SVN 21135" doesn't have this effect, I assume you must have made some kind change to the way it accesses the graphics driver.

I have access to C++ compilers and I guess I could make a rebuild of my own, if nothing more that to make it more IGP friendly. But I would like to know exactly what you did that made it work so much better? This would be a boon to people who cannot change out graphics cards such as laptop users.

Wow you guys even fixed the duplifaces only showing in edit mode problem. BRAVO guys.

Well i love the progress but i noticed two things. extrude extrudes freely untill i hit the mmb, this is weird. It will however extrude on a normal after i hit the middle mouse button.

Also there's a glitch.. select a face hit extrude and extrude a bit...> now undo twice. try to extrude again without changing your face selection..> it doesnt work(it grabs instead). Just thought i'd mention it. I know you guys would fix it anyway.

If you are planning on button menu's "view" to only have horizontal and vertical for it's options then the start up file should have "view" collapsed.

Please dont get rid of gestures, even if you just make them optionable. i love gestures and they are very easy for me to use.

Slightly quark about new interface which is otherwise A+. The T button window produces it's own arrow /\ which can overlap the 3dviewer's arrow quite easily maybe you guys can fix before it gets to final release. I've included a picture http://imagebin.org/54498 to show you what I'm talking about. and if i click the T's /\ first then i have to click click click click to get it back to normal. Thanks in advance.
    veQue
Also i notice that although i can right click cancel a splitting of windows i can not do the same for joining them. I can only esc cancel it.

Really love the colors in 2.5! Looks much better with orange than purple for selected objects. All the icons look much better too and I like the way the camera spins when you switch to side-, top-view etc.

What I don't like is that it'll propably take years for me to use Blender normally after this. =P I also just hope nothing will be forgotten.

Really looking forward to the release, 2.5 is really somthing special!
    veQue
I've been making my suggestions for the final 2.5 release.. or a 2.5x here. I hope you don't mind that I continue.
If there is a better place please link me.
    anyway here goes:

*Back button for ALL windows (to easily navigate back to previous window)
*Solid/wireframe render (so i dont have to use two objects)
    *Metaballs mirror
    *Face/Edge Select for lattice
    *Mirror for curves
    *Array for curves
*Tilde"~" toggle for all layers/previous-selected-layer(s) (right now "~" turns on all and alt~ turns off. Tilde toggle is best because sometimes I hit ~ when trying to hit tab.
*Tab button should change input fields (in the uv sphere pop-up for example [Segment/Rings/Radius])

    Lastly
*A non-disappearing background image when rotating 3d viewer.

Thanks and apologies if this kind of thing is the wrong place.

    Shift D duplicate acts funny.

Also would be cool if there was a button in the N-> view menu .. right next to "3D Cursor" that would automatically center the cursor. That versus copy pasting 0 0 0.

I assume 4 split view will be back in the real release of 2.5 ?

Great stuff as always developers keep up the good work. Blender is great.

Same request here. For now though you can press crtl+MMB in that window and then move left or right to change the size and make it smaller. I tested this build on a hp nx 7300 with 2gb ram, 1,86 Duo Core and most important mobile intel 945 express chipset and had some severe problems like disappearing buttons or at least their icons disappearing. window layout messed up and problems with displaying of cached smoke. sometimes everything works and sometimes it's a total mess. maybe it's still the intel onboard graphic chipset problem...right!?

I appreaciate your builds and use them a lot though. I am using a macbook too (intel gma x3100 graphics) and do not have these problems except for some display problems of cached smoke...

Looks good but I can't seem to get the "emulate keypad" option to work in the user preferences. I set it but it seems to have no effect - keys 1..0 still change the active layer, and the numpad is not emulated at all.

    Please help!!!

I have a weird (stupid?) problem with Blender 2.5.

When I try to run any build on my computer, it fails without any comments. Some builds run once, but then produce the same error report. No no one runs. On the other computer (with Russian WinXP) they work nice without any additional effort.

Both computers are AMD64, 2GB, WinXP( Eng and Rus).

On my comp Blender 2.49 works without any problem.

I have installed both Python 2.5.4 and Python 3.1 on my comp, tried to write the path to Blender's folder, but nothing helps.

I think that the solution should be very simple (e.g., missed library or some component is uninstalled, etc.), but I can't figure out what I have to do.

Subject: Maybe not only a driver (Intel) problem

In an earlier comment I said that buttons are disappearing and smoke not being shown correctly on hp nx 7300 with Intel Graphics GMA 945 Chipset. You told me it's a known issue of a bad driver problem.

So I did some further investigation and found out, that the dissapearing is not just related to Intel GMA onboard graphics but also seems to be related to the current drawmode meaning: whenever I change into Wiremode all buttons dissappear after a while. In Solid mode they are all there. So it's propaby more than just a driver problem.

I installed python 3.1.1 to see if there's somehow a problem with python missing. But the problem is still there. Whenever I change into wiremode all buttons dissappear not matter I use Tripple Buffer, Overlap or Full (you suggested Overlap).

Thanks in advance ... maybe this time it's somehow useful ;)

    Hi,
I don't know how to manually add an Ipo to an object. I only can add an Ipo by using I-Key.

In previous versions there was an "Ipo Type" Window where to choice Material, World, Texture, Fluidsim etc...and an Ipo list (e.g. LocX, LocY, LocZ, Layer, etc...)

it's because you have python 2.5 install on your computer, and this build works with python 3.0 !

before you start this build rename your python folder to something else. like python25 to _python25, like that blender won't find the python folder on your computer and it will use the build-in python librarie of blender :)

(at least it did work for me :) )

otherwise you can install the python 3.0 but I'm not sure it will be compatible with blender2.49

HI. At start I would like to sorry for my English.
First Problem: I have quite old PC (7 years old :P ) celeron 2.8 @ 3.0, ~700 ram, fx5200 128MB. and the problem is that: when I play animation, transforming (move, scale etc.) object (especially when scaling), apart when I turning around camera (MMB) and preview 3D window (Shift+LMB) -> blender just slow down. problem disappear after toggle 3D view window on full screen (CTRL + UP arrow). that slow down effect is caused by UI panel (I guess) (mostly by Properties task where's most buttons, edits etc.). So if you can optimize UI Rendering i program loop during activity 3D View Window and vice versa.
Next case is thad: after rescale Panels:PropertiesWindow (CTRL + mouse move left/right) when scroll this window, all controls(buttons, check boxes, edit etc.) are changing disproportionately its scale (always when scrolling-even little cursor moves).
BTW. CTRL + SPACE was better to toggle full screen window mode because hhis can be done with one hand while the other have at mouse.

SVN23161 when one adds a smoke modifier to a plane, set it to FLOW in the physics tab, under PARTICLE SYSTEMS: field the actual words "particle systems" are hard coded into the field.

Switch to the Particle Tab, add a PARTICLE SYSTEM, Name it - eg smoke1 - the name is now "Namesmoke1" not "smoke1".

Switch back to the physics tab, add your particle system to the PARTICLE SYSTEM: field - it now comes out as "particlesystemsmoke1".

I also added this to the bug tracker. AFTER adding this I spotted further up that the 2.5 bug tracker was up and running. So NOW also, sorry for inappropriately adding this here

    I love 2.5!

I have this build running on Vista-64 with no problems.
It's pretty stable and you can do some work with it already. Great!
    PlanetKiller
I works well in win7 with the areo effects on. (yay)
Can you tell me if these are implemented yet; movement of objects in the game engine or view frames?
I also cannot get it to emulate numpad on my laptop. I clicked the check box.

    I cannot wait for 2.5.

Dingto, Thank you for the builds. I just tried the smoke several times on this latest version and when I add a particle system, it gives a crash.

I haven't had this problem before, but I happens 100% of the times with build Blender 2.5 SVN 23285.
    winnertakesteve
i have the same issue as grafixsuz with the smoke module crashing blender whenever a particle system is added to the inflow object. regardless, thanks for the builds DingTo!
    Elcrapocrew
    @ grafixsuz and winnertakesteve:
Please check to see if these issues are reported in the official 2.5 bug tracker: http://projects.blender.org/tracker/?atid=498&group_id=9&func=browse

If these bugs are NOT listed already you can post them, the devs need to know about your issues but DingTo probably doesn't : )

Can't do a lot as it seems emulate numpad is still not working. Too tedious on a laptop without this!

Sir DingTo, I have a suggestion... What if when you open up Blender and the Viewport is empty rather than have a cube, camera and light in there. Or when you create a new file the default scene setup will be shown up.

Can you put Fly Mode on the next build?
    Nagesh
    Hi DingTo,

Thanks for making these snapshots available on such regular basis!

I am a Blender newbie, so please bear with any naive questions!

The Cg Cokkie tutorials are almost 2 months away, so I thought I'd learn 2.5 by trying Neal Hirsig's tutorials with 2.5. (They are small and deal with one topic at a time; so ideal for this purpose.)

In the wrap text tutorial, I am not able to find the "Curves and Surfaces" panel (I expected it to appear within the Tools Panel in a context-sensitive manner).

Am I not looking in the right places, or are these panels yet to be added in 2.5?

Thanks for your time and efforts again!
    Max
    @Nagesh

Hi, You have to know that 2.5 is still development version of 2.5, so, sometimes feature appear and disapper, just wait few weeks for the official release, for the moment I guess is best to play with 2.49b :)
    Nagesh
    OK, thanks!
    @DingTo
    Hi, DingTo.

I've a problem when I compile the new builds (from SVN 22440) with VS2008.

    The header file winbuildinfo.h (trunk\source\creator) doesn't exist.

    I've insert it manually:

    char * build_date=BUILD_DATE;
    char * build_time=BUILD_TIME;
    char * build_platform=BUILD_PLATFORM;
    char * build_type=BUILD_TYPE;

But the compiler doesn't work... How can I resolve this?

    Thanks in advance.

    DingTo
    Hey,.
sry no idea how to fix this. It works here without problems with scons/msvc.
    Bezel
Oh, I'm sorry. I wrote @DingTo instead of Bezel in the header.

I compile the source with CMake and Visual Studio 2008. But at the end of the compilation, there is one error:

    winbuildinfo.h doesn't exist in source/creator.

So I search in Internet (Google) and I find this: http://lists.blender.org/pipermail/bf-committers/2005-July/011387.html

And I created this file manually... but I don't resolve the problem.
    imbusy
BUILD_DATE, BUILD_TIME and so on are not defined. Instead, do this:

    char * build_date="";
    char * build_time="";
    char * build_platform="";
    char * build_type="";
    Bezel
    @ Imbusy:

Thank you, but when I write the file "winbuildinfo.h" there are two other errors...

ive been using blender 2.49b for a while and i use a lot of ctrl+tab, and ctrl for snapping tools.but i cannot work thisstuff in 2.5..is this builds need some compiling coz im using only what is in uncompressed files.

Hi, does the latest SVN specifically need at minimum python 2.6 http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Doc/Building_Blender/2.5/Windows ?

No longer possible with 2.5.4 due to API update?

    Thanks
    aidanodr
FOLKNUTZ: 2.5 is under heavy development, it is expected that alot of stuff IS NOT working yet. Alot of the pre 2.5 modelling toolsets ARE NOT added back in yet as far a sI know. PLUS i imagine by default in 2.5 keystrokes may differ, key mapping is being added to allow users set their own key strokes in effect!

BLENDERRADIO: I reckon it needs Python 3.1 .. I think. However it will NOT do any harm to your system to install 2.6 and 3.1. I have both installed under windows without any difficulty!

The progress is very interesting. Good Work.

The new interface will take some getting used to. In some ways it is fantastic. In other ways it still needs lots of work. No sense making extensive comments until having used a first, stable release long enough time for the issues to become apparent.

BUG: Modifiers do not update when in Sculpt mode. It is necessary to toggle the "Realtime Display of Modifier" key off and on again to make the display update in the work window.

I think that now 2.5 could be use... but why in your (awesome) builds the CTRL+TAB in edit mod doesnt show me the panel for choose EDGE, POINT or FACE ?

I know that 2.5 is still in development, but would be fine have some basic shortcut avaible :)

    thankyou!
    Electric Jim
From all the 2.5 builds I've seen, it appears that the Copy Attributes function in armature Pose mode has been replaced with Copy Pose. (At least, the default Ctrl+C shortcut has been remapped and I can't seem to find a new shortcut or any menu that performs Copy Attributes.) Copy Pose is definitely useful, but certain aspects of my animating workflow depend strongly on the Copy Attributes function (as it exists in 2.49). Any idea whether Copy Attributes will end up in the official Blender 2.5 release?

Well I think the new design is not very practical ...
The current versions of BLENDER are so much clearer !
The butons are so much easier to find !
Everything looks grey in this 2.50 ...
YES the customisation works and it is made for that !
    I know ...
BUT I do not have time to waste for customisation ...
I want to work with it that' s all ...
But the new features from the 2.50 release seam to be great !
But in a way the new smoke simulator or rather the results are loocking to be faked in a kind of way !
I hope they will look better once rendered !
AND as a conclusion of my comment , I'm beginning to unterstand those who ,FINALLY, have chosen to use a professional 3d CG sofware !

    @The BLENDER FAN Alex WEST:

please... so many stupids comment is so small space...
Blender 2.5 is free and great! If you want some feature like smoke use your 3000dollars for the new "commercial software" and donate to the guys that developing the tool!!

I'm donating when I can do, I donate also for the people that wants more and more avery time...

Ok, at this point, PLEASE dont use Blender!!
    Agetian
@ The BLENDER FAN Alex WEST: You're being overly critical of what in fact is actually an early alpha of the upcoming Blender 2.5 - things will change, improve, and be updated with time. The drastic changes in the interface may be shocking at first, it's normal that you're quite at a loss and you feel like things aren't quite where you expect them to be, but then again, the improvements are generally for the better - more intuitive interface as soon as you get accustomed to it, nice customization options (yeah, not everyone needs shortcut customization, for instance personally I'm totally fine with the default shortcuts and I wouldn't change them at all, but many people will welcome the customizability of the new interface!), feature improvements, and so on. You should be grateful that such wonderful software is available free of charge for everyone to download, use, and enjoy!

I keeping having a Scroll Wheel issue.
None of the builds of 2.50 allows me to use the Shift & Crtl keys to scroll horizontal and vertical.

I can zoom in about out fine as well as move my view 360 around a mesh. But I can't move to a desired central point when needed. :(

I'm using Windows 7 beta (activated) and MS is no help with this at all. They blame the program. And they may be right. 2.49b uses the scroll wheel fine. But bogs down the system with other issues.

Those asking about the cp720 problem.
They are using Arabic enabled windows OS and this problem will popup because blender 2.5 seems to try to use the related encoding that match the OS(Operating System) default encoding.
To solve this problem (Hay, this is a work around) do the following:
    go to this folder
    win32-vc r24060\.blender\python\lib\encodings
considering that you are using the version win32-vc r24060 of blender 2.5
Then make a copy of this file utf_8.py and rename the copy to cp720.py all of this should be in the same folder.

First of all, amazing work! I love the new 2.5 Alpha 0 system with all the goodies!

Second of all, the Tool and Operator Shelves and Viewport Properties built into each viewport are a poor usability decision in my opinion. They should be smaller and more transient or in their own Window Types. I'll explain why.

    1. Tool Shelves occupy a LOT of screen space. They are always as tall as viewport, even with only a few tools!
    2. Splitting a viewport with a Tool Shelf means you automatically get ANOTHER Tool Shelf in your new viewport!
    3. Tool Shelves can't be floated or broken off!
    4. Operator Shelves have the same problems.
    5. Operator Shelves are abnormal in 2.5. All other properties and numbers that users can edit, are typically found in the Properties Window, except Operators. Why look in two places for numbers to edit?!

I'm not here just to complain. Here are my suggested solutions.

    1. Create a Tool Shelf Window.
    2. Allow buttons to be Text, Icon or Both style.
    3. Move Operator Shelf properties to an Operators panel in the Properties Window for each Context or separate.

Also, I have similar problems with viewport properties.

    1. The Viewport Property Shelves occupy LOTS of screen space. They are always as tall their viewports, even with only a few buttons!
    2. Splitting a viewport with a Property Shelf means you automatically get ANOTHER Property Shelf in your new viewport!
    3. Viewport Property Shelves are odd. They contain a mix of data some of which pertain to the viewport, and some of which have NOTHING to do with the viewport! For example, when a viewport is set to Orthogonal, the property shelf still contains camera and lens properties. Transforms are object specific data. Selected or active items, again have nothing to do with the viewport.

    Again, more solutions.

    1. Remove excess unrelated data, keep it lean, mean, and related.
    2. Add a user preference for hiding or showing new Viewport Property Shelves when viewports are split or joined.
    3. Remove data which is not related to a viewport and put it where it belongs. Usually in a related context in the Properties Window. The example of object transforms, they should be in the Object Context of the Properties Window. Selected or Active object name, in the Outliner Window or a separate Selections Window Type! (Would be cool!) Camera properties, should NOT be shown in the Viewport Properties Shelf unless the viewport is specifically set to a camera. Even then, perhaps it should only contain the name of the camera, as the camera data should be in the Camera Context of the Property Window.

Consistency and usability are the number one reason Blender isn't more widely adopted professionally and recreationally.

    bartrobinson
Again... AMAZING work! I love the new User Preferences, configurable key mapping, integrated python UI and Console, multithreaded UI, and major feature advances.

Blender 2.50 is so great that I have no words to describe it. I am using 2.49b as a main tool for work in 3D and it blews my mind. Awesome tool. There are couple of things that could be added to the 2.50, like targeted camera which could be very useful. Other usefull thing could be, the ability to aligin vertices or edges to the one of the axis. Like in uv editor and when fixing the seems it would be very usefull to have the ability to select vertices and algn them to the x or y axis, making them to be in a single straight row.
Keep up the good work, you guys are the greatest.

what could be added to the 2.5 version is a render function from the live view - like max ...

Sellection buttons are not drawn correctly, when entering edit mode. Simply a small box with a tick in it. Instant crash when trying to change from vertex to line sellect.

I ditto Bogey's comment Edit mode instantly crashes my machine.

Дhm, yeah...i really should check if I have made changes in my working copy before uploading a build. This is NOT a Problem inside SVN! :P
    Sorry for that!

Down loading now. Thanks for sorting so quick, and thanks for the builds. Much appreciated.

Uh you are quick! You are the best!!!

    Hi
For some reason I have started getting these messages since last couple builds. This happens when I change the front-side-top view shortcuts

"search for unknown operator WM_OT_context_set_enum, WM_OT_context_set_enum"

Couple months ago I changed and used those shortcuts successfully.

    Any ideas?

    thanks

The Cursor is allready not centered when the Cube is still there, just zoom out a bit and you'll see it.
Easy Bug, will be fixed with the next b.blend Update in SVN.

Do you guys know why the report region in the console area on Graphicall builds doesn't show operators for me?

It works on the official released ALPHA 0.

Please, if you know the answer, email me loopduplicate@burningtoken.com or post a comment on my build page.

DingTo, only when I use your bild there is this problem: "Texture-Influence-Geometry enable" not work correctly? There are black artefacts. Sample: http://blender3d.org.ua/forum/news/iwe/upload/nor_on.jpg
How you are going to correct it?

    Really cool!
I really wish the bevel tool was availiable though. It is essential to my modeling flow. anyone know when it will be available in 2.5?
    BadElvis
Works well, thank you. What do I have to do, so that "import Blender" works in console? Thanks for help!
    *comment from the builder
    DingTo
The Py API in 2.5 is new. There is no "import Blender" anymore. See the first blue lines in console, it tells you what you can do. (bpy, context etc)
    batarzell
Nice, cool, excellent. Keep it going DingTo, you are the best!

Hi... I'm trying to do my own builds but I'm encountering some issues... I even tried to build a minimalist blender, without anything selected on CMake but I still have some warning and I wanted to know if that's normal...

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Pro Trial e Cmake.

    Warning 1 warning C4018: '

Well, any way it's here, sorry for the other comments... And thanks for your work, 'till I figure out how to do my own builds I'll continue to use yours =)

    Takeshi,
I have no idea about cmake, but you could try scons (which gets delivered with Blender SVN). Just change into your source dir and do "python scons/scons.py" in the console.

This latest build (26251) crashes immediately if one tries to go into edit mode. Same thing happened with build 26247.
    Demohero
I agree with Ignatz. When I enter edit mode, it suddenly crashes. Win XP pro. Geforce 8600.

Thanks for your reply, DinTo. I will get used to the new bpy soon, I hope. Has anybody figured out a way to work around the installation of the C++ runtime environment? I do not have the necessary admin priviledges to install it.

    Thanks!

    EditMode Crash has been fixed.

    @BadElvis:
There is a possibility, download Blender 2.5 Alpha 0 from blender.org and copy some files next to the blender.exe of my build. Of course i could add these files to my build so you don't have to, but I have a very slow connection. ;-)

    Thanks for the build, DingTo.

Can you change the folder name from 'trunk' to 'release number' (or something like 'trunk_#XXXXX'). That way will be easy for us to keep multiple versions and to know which one it's the newest.

    Thanks again.
    *comment from the builder
    DingTo
The 7z Archive I upload has always the name "trunk_SVN Number.7z", when you extract the archive you can make a dir with the SVN number or something. But will think about your idea, as my build process is automated with a script, I can tweak that easily to rename the folder. :)

    Glad you like the Builds!

    DingTo,
thank you for your work: your builds are my preferred source for keeping informed about blender 2.5 evolution.

As far as you know, is it planned to (re)introduce the script link tool in 2.5x, in the near future?

    Thanks.

Amazing....I am really starting to feel the vertical menus ! It is much easier....I made an animated model using this last build...from start to finish I have not major problems. Few details like no grabbing keys in the NLA...some keys in the dope Editor can't be moved even when they are unlocked ! You must toggle to free then...etc etc...But I love 2.5 ! F-Curves editing lovely !

I cant rotate my view with alt+left click anymore. We were able to do this in 2.49. Is it a bug or just my build?
    Benjamin Bailey (Banor)
I downloaded this build and am looking forward to modeling my character very soon, but the 7z archive file is PASSWORD PROTECTED. I use PeaZip. Any suggestions?!
    Benjamin Bailey (Banor)
Nevermind, I got it to work this time. The first time I moved the file to a different drive before extracting. This time I just did it from the Desktop and it worked fine. Yipee!

Did you figure it out? If not try this. Go to your preferences and turn on emulate middle mouse button.
