    Thanks for the kind words!

I use 32bit ubuntu. I'm not sure if you get a 64-bit build if you build like I do on a 64bit machine. I'll bet Zebulon would know because it looks like he compiles 64bit. He said that he runs Ubuntu also so maybe you'll have some luck.

On another topic, I had trouble building with FFMPEG today. The developers took it out of svn today so you have to get it yourself now. You can look at my Ubuntu trunk build to see how I got ffmpeg working again if it's something you use. I tried to post a bug in the bug tracker but that was a mistake! They said that the maintainers will get the build working in the next few days and the bug tracker wasn't for compiling issues. So I couldn't wait and I made some changes myself.

Hi. Fedora 9 here. Can't naturally get an update for this, so could you include this file in future builds, or build a static build?

Build 27070, hopefully works better for you, Fedora9. I am doing "straight" builds with the Linux2-config.py. This time I did not have to add any lines for ffmpeg. It still lists a lot of "errors" on the build, but not so many as to quit. It builds "cleaner" on Win32, but I also use UbuntuStudio64 for the larger RAM footprint. Hopefully they will get better as we move along.

Нельзя ли сделать сборку для среды SLAX, а то мне далеко до программирования а в нем нормально работать, а в Windows у меня через пару минут работать нельзя все поля серые...

Do I need anything installed in ubuntu for this to work?

Alpha 2 works for me but this doesn't start when clicked on.

Todd, Hello... This is a 7z compressed file, so you will need to save it to your desktop, then un-compress the contents. Once this is done, I usually go to my Blender folder on my system, delete the old folder and then replace it with this new build, making sure to use the same name, and my Icon and Menus then work with the new version. It doesn't install itself automatically, but if you un-compress it, you can just run it from the new folder, and leave your current version in place. It is up to you. Best to you.

    thanks for replying paul.
I've gone through everything correctly to extract it to where I keep my Blender versions.

Recently though I had to buy a new HD and reinstall linux.

Are they any other files I need for this to work?

None of the builds I've downloaded seem to be working and your the first guy that I started to bug about it. :)

The zipped versions from blender.org work but not this one. Or others downloaded from here.

Do I need python 3.1 installed or some other version of python?

It is my understanding that Python 3.1 is bundled as part of the build. As I stated in the build notes, I am running fine on one station Ubuntu64, but not on another. This was not usually the case, not sure what is going on now. You may try a variety of Linux builds to see if this can be worked out. The builds do not compile without throwing out some errors, but the builds complete and run on my station, so... I keep moving. Good luck.

I'm using Mint 9, and when I download it, it opens with the archive manager and puts it on my desktop. But when I click on the blender icon nothing happens. I haven't been able to get a Linux blender build to work since the first alpha and it has forced me into Windows because those always work. Pleeeeeease help a noob.

I figured it out. I had to install 2.49 through the software manager, then this build worked. It must have installed something I needed.

    Tim, Hello...
Glad to hear it. Sorry I did not see your post earlier. I have two stations, UbuntuStudio64. The one I build on always runs the new build fine, but the other station gave up awhile back. Loopduplicate (member) mentioned needing to have Python Lib Dev3.1 or some such file, which I did find using the Synaptic Manager, installed it and now both run fine. Just some extra hoops to jump through some times. Best to you.

    Hello all!

    Sorry for the noob question:
Having the same problem. Unpack the file, read the installation notes, but there is no .blender directory, and there is no blender executable.
There is a blender file without extension.

Running Lucid 64bit, have installed Blender2.49, and python3.1

What am I misunderstanding so much? Thanks for help!

    I was uSinG 10.4 lucid lynx 64bit.on an i7 930... I had to install

libavdevice, gettext, python 3.1 dev, libopenal, and it ran fine...

    Thanx

    regards!

PS. i dont know if i should ask it here or not but can anybody tell me how can i change orbiting the 3d interface from [MMB] to [alt + MMB]. and turn panning from [shift+MMB] to [MMB]. (sorry for beng absolutely out of topic)

    thanks friends!

hi Paul. I got 31508 and I'm looking to build with collada for the first time. Any idea where to get the required libraries?

    twohot, Hello...
I wish I could just point for you, but I did not want to leave you "unanswered." Check into some of the posts (BlenderArtists.org)and builds (here) that Loopduplicate has done as he was helpful to me in some of these questions. Do a Google search. Good luck on the quest.

I'm running into problems with ffmpeg which also supplies libavutil, my copy is newer and ffmpeg isn't backwards compatible. Any chance you could do a build with a static ffmpeg?

You will need to look for a different build for now, maybe one of the "optimized" version, which often include more components. I do "straight" builds of the Freestyle Branch which includes only what T.K. chooses to integrate. Sorry

    Everybody else...
I had not tested this build (31507) for the Freestyle function, sorry, just made sure that it "launched," with the intent to get back later. I do not know what is intended with this build. I will post the question over on BlenderArtists.org and see if T.K. has an answer. I just pulled down the SVN 31525, no change, so I will await his update, but this build doesn't seem to be useful for Freestyle... sorry all, I am just a "humble builder" so I can't fix it myself.

T.K. has now updated the build (31536) to fix the absence of the Post Processing box for Freestyle, and I checked it before uploading, so.... back to rendering...
