This build includes all the latest additions to blender trunk, but is patched to include volume rendering. The previously advertised importance sampling is now part of trunk.

Volume Patch

Cycles Volume

As expected it also includes all of recently added features from 2.61, such as:

  • Cycles Render Engine
  • Motion Tracking
  • Dynamic Paint
  • Ocean Simulation
  • and much more!

Are there any newest (2.62) builds including the volume shader?

I'm getting the same 1/3 CPU usage no matter what even using F12

Thank you.
Running on OSX 10.6.8 / 2 x xeon-nehalem 16 threads, nvidia graphics.

Under CPU (these are really fast cpus actually) it consumes 1/3 of the cpu power only (preview window) but 95% under final render mode (f12)
It's a major problem.

decamino: I'll see if that still happens. The build is updated though, so it might be fixed for you anyways.

blendemf, first thank you for the build!

I found an issue when loading a sound, blender give me an error when I trying to do it.

Awesome! It works fine in Lion (10.7.2). Btw, are the blend files used to render the blue monkey available for download somewhere ?

comoris: that's exactly what happens to me. I'm just gonna assume it's non-functional right now.
(I posted about this on BlenderArtists, didn't really get any responses. Since Cycles is so heavily under development, it's understandable that at some point it won't function)

yup, on the second it worked. but not anymore.
I 've tested it on e newer Mac (3rd) and the opencl platform loads (no errors in terminal), but there is something weird with the rendering, the first pass it renders correctly the next onces it shows a flattened image and its becomes more and more transparent. iMac osx Lion 10.7.1 - 3,1 Ghz Intel Core i5 - AMD radeon HD 6970M 1024 Mb.

comoris: did the Radeon 4850 work with OpenCL previously?

The second platform is the same one that didn't work before, correct?

Just to inform/help.
Gpu render doesn't work on
OSX Lion 10.7.1 - ATI Radeon HD 4850512 MB &
OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 - ATI Radeon HD 5750
OpenCL: platform version 1.1 or later required, found 1.0 . black screen appears.

comoris: mine was about twice as fast as a CPU render with only diffuse closures. That being said, my CPU usage was at least double when using OpenCL. Potentially it's making better use of my CPU, and barely using any of the GPU at all right now, IDK. Either way, yes, it is faster for me, but I'm not entirely sure if yours should be faster or not.

Make sure when you are testing the speed to set a high number of passes and measure so it is more accurate. When just watching it render, it doesn't seem much faster, but it gets to the number of passes much faster.

Ok, i've tested it on osx 10.7 and it works, had no problems.
But OpenCL was not faster then CPU rendering, should it be mutch faster?

I also want to add, that Cycles is very experimental (especially the OpenCL part), so these sort of issues should probably be expected. I'll keep uploading builds, so let me know if it starts working at any time.

comoris: either your card does not support some feature of OpenCL 1.1 that is used (it's sort of unclear from searching around), or the drivers for 10.6.8 do not include OpenCL 1.1 compatibility, which I saw some indications of.

I don't want to have to suggest you upgrading to 10.7, because I don't know if that will actually fix your problem for sure, and it's something you'd have to pay for.

Outside of actually debugging the code, I have no real way of telling whats wrong, and I haven't really taken a look at the opencl portion of the code at all (or any of the cycles code really).

This could be solved in future revisions. When OpenCL support just started working in Cycles, I got a very similar error (in fact, probably the exact same error), so it might be best to wait it out.

If someone else has more knowledge about the situation, please let me know, so that I can add some sort of notice if I have to. Also, if anybody has the same card, and maybe a different version of the OS, please let me know if it works or not.

Hi, i've tested it on osx 10.6.8 (ATI Radeon HD 5750) and the follow line appears in terminal
OpenCL: platform version 1.1 or later required, found 1.0 . black screen appears.
(this just to inform you)
How to upgrade?
